COCKTAIL CABINET
Imagine a high cabinet, made on wood with black and red dyes. It’s a very particular piece, nothing usual. On top and close to the borders, camouflaged by the black colour you see a couple of speakers. Speakers on a cabinet? What is this objet? The owner of the cabinet, a beautiful woman expert in drinks, opens the cabinet door, a wooden tray attached by metallic arms to the structure. Inside there is a dark space and you start to see some spirit bottles in. When the tray is almost down a light turns on illuminating one bottle and the rest of the space remains dark. She starts to tell a story about that bottle, age, origin, the process… And the bottle is illuminated with a spot as the scenography of a play. There is music coming out the speaker, very soft, in tune with the story she is telling. When she moves out the bottle from the scene the light turns off. When she places other bottles on scene different light spots illuminate each bottle differently. The play continues, while the guests take a sip of tasty whiskies and rhums. After the show the cocktail continues in the living room, the music from the cabinet is louder and danceable, the light is now ambient, illuminating softly the cabinet space.
I made this project a year ago for my sister, an expert on spirit drinks as she is working in one of the best companies of spirits. The cabinet and its interaction is designed for the way she makes the show. It’s something very particular and specific. A good friend of my is going to do the interaction and electronic work. I’m looking forward to make this happen.
